US Elections

Aurelien Jarno posted this in his blog:

But maybe the question is why US elections is so important for European people. Maybe Europe is not enough united to be an alternative to the US power...

Now, his comments form is closed so I'm just going to comment through a trackback. It is true that the EU isn't as united as the US are. But the US being the United States of America and the EU just being a European Union has something to do with this. The countries in Europe are each older than the US in its entirety. Europeans discovered America. All this happened while the european countries were just that: separate countries, just laying there together in a region we call Europe. We don't want to change that like the US did long ago. Dutch people are primarily Dutch. Being a European comes second.

As for the US elections, I don't really understand why we care as much about them as we do our own elections. It probably has something to do with the US being a large country. And large countries can have a big influence on other, smaller countries. So I guess we just want to know who we're dealing with. And of course hope it's not that cowboy.
